Joy and pleasure. What a beautiful theme to be weaving through my days. Just a couple days ago I posted an article about what my Guides had told me about experiencing more joy and pleasure, wondered about the idea of joy being uncomfortable for some us and asked you to be willing to be uncomfortable with it for awhile in order to embody it.
My guides suggested that I inhabit my body. Open to my senses. (The post can be found here:
Do you have the Habit of Joy?)
Shortly after I posted that article I was led to this quote by David Deida, author and spiritual growth and sacred intimacy teacher. In this quote he is speaking directly to women.
Whether alone or in relationship, your spiritual and sexual bliss require a daily allotment of whole-body pleasure and deep heart offering, or else your joy will shrivel like an unwatered plant.
~David Deida
My Guides suggested opening to our senses. Inhabiting our bodies. Opening to life. They were suggesting this whole-body pleasure that Deida speaks of. Remember we aren't referring to sex only, although that certainly can be some wonderful whole-body pleasure!
Think about it: when people are asked, "What brings you joy?" How often do they answer that a certain type of sensual pleasure brings them joy? Isn't it usually something like my children, my partner, my pet, traveling, being in nature, yoga, creative endeavors?
But what if we focused more deeply: feeling the warmth of the sun, the smells, textures, tastes of what we eat and drink, taking our time applying body lotion and using lotion that has a smell we adore. Noticing and taking in the light, shadows and colors wherever we happen to be. Noticing how our body loves to move and stretch. Having fabrics around our living spaces and work spaces that appeal to our sense of touch as well as visually. Painting with our hands to have that experience be more sensual.
As we have these experiences and pay attention to them, try opening to receive the input rather than intently focusing on it. Allow the color, taste, sound or fragrance to come to us so we are receiving its energy rather than our energy moving to it. Like watching a candle flame and allowing ourselves to be bathed in the light rather than reaching our sight and energy to the flame. Open to our senses.
Start your day by being willing to experience more sensual pleasure in your life. Be in your body, stop for a few moments to feel the sun on your face, to hear the birds chirping, to smell the roses! What whole-body pleasures are you willing to experience?
Deep joy, a joy that truly comes from within and is grounded and strong, is cultivated and nourished by opening up to our senses and living more sensual lives.
I'm having a delicious experience. Let me know how it goes with you!
With Deep Joy,
Lisa
